My Favorite Things for Business
When starting my business I felt so lost. There is so much you just don't know! And everyone has ideas on how you should spend your money in order to "grow your business". Unfortunately those things don't always help you make money, live up to the promises they make, or feel "worth it" after you invest your money and end up not finding it really worth what you spent for it.
I've spent a lot of money and time on courses, trainings, tools, equipment, products...you name it I've quite possibly tried it. Some of these things I've found to be a lot more beneficial than others. Below are things I recommend to others who may be in the same boat I was...confused and wondering what the heck you are doing. To be clear, I only recommend things that I am really happy I found and have been the most useful to me and my business. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

SEO Made Simple Course with Erica Julson
At one point I spent hours upon hours watching videos on SEO hoping to understand how to apply SEO to my business. Afterward I knew more about what SEO was, but still had zero clue how to actually use it or apply it. Then this course came along, and it answered everything I wanted to know. Those hours I spent prior were a complete waste of time. (Don't do what I did and waste your time.) This course gives you specific and actionable steps! It tells you specifically how to apply SEO to your website and business. PLUS, I had known for quite awhile that my website was slow and it bugged me, but I had no idea how to fix it! This course helped big time with that too. This course is fantastic. I can not say enough good things about it. By far one of the BEST purchases I have made for my business.
Build Your Own Brand Course with Pat Flynn
This course is awesome. It's worth at least a few hundred dollars, but it's actually free. Pat Flynn walks you through setting up a website (among other things). I already had a website before taking this course, but knowing how useful and informative Pat's podcasting course was I decided to check this out. Even though I had a website already I learned a ton of useful information that I hadn't known prior! I found this course very useful.
Power-Up Podcasting Course with Pat Flynn
Looking to start a podcast? I had no clue how to start a podcast. This course is so extremely thorough! Pat walks you through every step you need from start to finish. He really leaves no stone left unturned. You get all of the specific and actionable steps you need. Including necessary equipment, how to record and edit episodes, getting the podcast listed on sites, and marketing it. Among other things. If you follow the steps, you WILL have a podcast at the end. It is a fantastic course if you want a podcast, but do not know every single step you need in order to actually successfully have one. One of the BEST purchases I have made for my business.
Looking to get your name in the news? Whether online, in print, or on television this course provides great information! I have professional on-camera training, so I thought maybe I didn't need this. However this course teaches how to actually get featured in the media, which I knew nothing about! Why does getting featured in the media matter? Getting featured in the media is a way to get your name out there, and getting your name out there can lead to more revenue. Erin Palinski-Wade and Amy Gorin have been featured many, many times and use their experience to help educate not only in the course, but in the private Facebook group as well!
Nutritious Life Certification with Keri Glassman
This certification is for Registered Dietitians AND those who aren't RDs. The material teaches nutrition concepts and information, but also about growing a nutrition business. I especially recommend it if you are going to work in nutrition and wellness and are not going to go to school to become a dietitian. This certification will help ensure you get sound nutrition information, as opposed to inaccurate information found so many other places. Need to make some money while you grow your business? I've been there. There is a lot of talk about work-from-home jobs, but nothing I found made enough money, wasn't shady, or didn't have something else odd about it. THEN I found VIPKID.
As a teacher for VIPKID you teach English online to kids in China. You do NOT have to have teaching experience. You do need experience with kids and at least a bachelor's degree. You can teach from home or essentially anywhere with a good WiFi connection. It really is a good gig.
Podcasting Equipment
Microphones can cost hundreds of dollars. You don't have to spend that much, especially if you're just starting out. This microphone gets the job done and doesn't cost hundreds.
Dragonpad USA Pop Filter
If you get the microphone listed here (or many other microphones) you will want a pop filter. It helps with how your speech comes across to listeners, especially with letters like "p" and "t".
NEEWER Adjustable Microphone Arm Stand
Originally we had microphone stands and they just weren't to our liking. We really like these adjustable arms though.
